Remove Dents in Cars with Dry Ice
How
do you fix dents in car bodies or sheet metal with dry ice? Park your
car with the dent in the sun and let the dent and surrounding sheet metal
warm up. Then, wearing protective gloves, put a small block of dry ice over
the dent. The rapid chilling of the metal will "pop" the
dent without scratching the paint. Be sure to follow all the dry
ice safety precautions and keep other people away while you are working,
because of the extreme cold of the dry ice and the cold car body metal
after the dry ice is applied.
If there is a crease in the bottom of the dent, or a body support member under it, complete removal with dry ice may not be possible. Usually the paint will not be harmed with this "dent pulling" method. View a video on How to Fix a Dent with Dry Ice. Try this at your own risk, and be sure to observe all the dry ice safety precautions. Dry ice is sold in 10-pound lots.
For low-cost, paintless dent repair to your car, try dry ice.
